SJ reduces the number of bookings after criticism

Following criticism of overcrowding on board the trains, SJ has now chosen to reduce the number of bookable seats on the trains, from 75 percent to 65 percent.

– Now we have analyzed, learned lessons and are making changes so that it is better for everyone, says SJ's press manager Tobbe Lundell.

Going forward, SJ will only fill its trains to 65 percent capacity, instead of the current 75 percent. The reason is the complaints about congestion on the trains that have come since the travel restrictions were lifted.

Most travelers during the summer were expected to be smaller groups and families with children who would still sit together, which would provide space for single travelers to sit separately.

– That's the experience we've had before. But this is no ordinary summer, it's been difficult to predict everything. Now we've analyzed, learned lessons and are making changes so it's better for everyone, says SJ's press manager Tobbe Lundell.

But it will take up to a week before the change takes effect. Departures where up to 75 percent of the tickets have already been sold will go ahead as planned.
