From 2020 and for eight years onwards, SJ will operate the Öresund train service. A new agreement with the transport companies in southern Sweden means that SJ will be responsible for traffic planning, operations, personnel, maintenance and replacement services.

SJ's CEO Crister Fritzson says in a press release that the ambition is to increase attractiveness and contribute to growth and increased quality of life in southern Sweden.

Traffic runs on three different lines between Copenhagen/Helsingör and Gothenburg/Karlskrona/Kalmar.

Until 2022, SJ is only responsible for traffic on the Swedish side of Öresund, but after that the company will also have full operational responsibility to and from Österport in Denmark.
