For the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, state-owned SJ can now report a quarterly profit. For the third quarter, operating profit was SEK 32 million, compared to a loss of SEK 289 million in the same period last year.

”"It feels incredibly hopeful, even though it is too early to predict the continued development in the coming period. We believe that travel habits will look different after the pandemic, with continued remote working for parts of the working time and longer commute times that place demands on the ability to work while traveling," says SJ's President and CEO Monica Lingegård in a press release.

The company is also seeing changed travel behavior, primarily from companies where it has been able to sign many new business agreements.

”"We are also seeing increased interest from the business community in switching their business travel to climate-smart alternatives," says Monica Lingegård.

SJ's turnover at the same time amounted to SEK 2 billion, compared to SEK 1.35 billion the previous year.
