Malmö Airport announced that Region Skåne, through Skånetrafiken, is introducing public transport to the airport. Skånetrafiken's buses are scheduled to start operating in August 2026 with a bus route between Svedala and Malmö Airport. The initiative will be an important complement to today's airport buses and taxis and strengthen the airport as an intermodal transport hub.

– The investment in strengthened public transport together with Skånetrafiken is very welcome for our commuters as well as for our travellers. Malmö Airport is an important and large employer for the region and the improved accessibility means that competitiveness increases through strengthened intermodality to and from the airport. The expanded public transport via the airport contributes to Swedavia's ambitious sustainability goal of fossil-free domestic travel from door to door by 2030, says Nils Funke, Airport Manager Malmö Airport at Swedavia.

The buses with Skånetrafiken will run with half-hourly service and travelers and commuters will have the opportunity to connect with both trains from Malmö and buses from Lund. It will also be possible to connect with traffic from Ystad and Trelleborg. Svedala will thus become a node for public travel to and from Malmö Airport. The strengthened public transport solution makes it easier for both commuters and airport travelers and is a long-awaited addition to today's commuting options.

– It feels incredibly good that Region Skåne can continue to improve public transport for us Skåne residents. When we now procure and introduce public transport to Malmö Airport, it means that we can help strengthen the airport's attractiveness and competitiveness and contribute to more sustainable travel to a workplace that currently generates a lot of car trips, says Carina Zachau (M), Regional Councillor and Chair of the Public Transport Committee.

According to the press release.
