The number of air passengers traveling to and from Skavsta Airport will almost double by 2040, according to a forecast made by Nyköping Municipality together with the airport.
Nyköping Municipality, Skavsta Airport and the construction company Skanska have now entered into a declaration of intent to develop and expand the airport and the adjacent area.
– Skavsta will become a unique meeting place where flights and trains are linked. There are plans for an environmental experience facility and we believe that the area will be used a lot for conferences, companies and offices, says Urban Granström, Social Democrat and chairman of the municipal board in Nyköping.
This year, approximately 3 million people are expected to travel to and from Skavsta, but as air travel is increasing, the forecast that has been produced shows that 5.7 million travelers will use Skavsta Airport by 2040.
In 2017, the airport had 2,132,072 travelers.
