The mountain tourism company Skistar has decided to invest SEK 598 million in 2023/2024 to further develop the company's mountain facilities in Sweden and Norway, according to a press release.

First up is a new six-chair lift in the Norwegian ski resort of Hemsedal for next winter.

The new express lift in Hemsedal, Lodge Express, will have a capacity of 3,000 people/hour and a length of 1,733 meters. The lift will start from Skistar Lodge, which will give guests better access to the ski area without having to transport themselves by button lift through the children's area and then take another lift to the top. In addition, an additional button lift is being built as a complement in the middle of the ski area adjacent to the park.

Other investments for 2023/2024 include the expansion of snowmaking systems and the development of the new area Hovde Syd in Vemdalsskalet, says Skistar CEO Stefan Sjöstrand to Nyhetsbyrån Direkt. Skistar also hopes to be able to set up a new lift in Åre for the next ski season where the old so-called 1,000-meter lift was located. 

Furthermore, the hope is to install the new chairlift Lundsgårdsliften in Åre for the next winter season, which has been appealed. That lift has already been paid for, according to Stefan Sjöstrand, and is not included in the now decided investment amount for 2023/2024. 

Skistar has had a very good start to the 2022/2023 winter season, significantly better than the company expected, according to Stefan Sjöstrand.

”"We had a very nice Christmas and New Year considering how many guests there were," he says.

The company's latest report, released before Christmas, showed that the booking situation was worse compared to the previous year.
