Austria will make skiing possible starting on Christmas Eve, December 24. However, hotels will be forced to remain closed until January 7, which means that only one-day trips are possible, reports The Local.

The announcement comes from Chancellor Sebastian Kurz during a press conference.

In addition to allowing skiing, Austria will also ease gathering restrictions during Christmas.

”"We want to bring the (infection) number down by December 23 so that you can spend the holidays with up to ten people from any number of households," Kurz said.

This exception is expected to apply during Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Skistar owns a facility in Austria, St. Johann in the Austrian Tyrol.
