Ahead of the 2026/27 winter season, SkiStar, in collaboration with Snälltåget, is introducing a new travel option to the Sälenfjällen mountains. Starting on December 19, 2026, you can take a direct train to Mora with connecting bus transfers to SkiStar's destinations in the Sälen area.
The fast train runs from southern and central Sweden directly to Mora, without any changes along the way. From there, connecting bus transfers are offered to Lindvallen, Högfjällshotellet, Tandådalen and Hundfjället. The transfer is adapted to the train's arrival times and includes transportation of luggage.
– Through the collaboration with Snälltåget, we are now creating an attractive alternative to the car journey for guests traveling to Sälen. It improves accessibility to the destination and gives more people the opportunity to choose the train, says Mathias Lindström, Commercial Director at SkiStar.
Departures from all over southern and central Sweden
The train will depart every Saturday from 19 December 2026 and will operate until the Easter break. Departure is from Malmö early on Saturday morning, arriving in Mora in the afternoon. The return journey is the following Saturday, arriving in Malmö on Saturday evening.
Snälltåget's daily trains to Mora will depart from several locations in southern and central Sweden, including Malmö, Lund, Hässleholm, Alvesta, Nässjö, Linköping, Stockholm and Uppsala. On selected weeks, the route will also be operated via Helsingborg, Halmstad and Gothenburg.
– Many people want to travel to and from the Sälenfjällen mountains during the winter and we are convinced that a direct train from southern Sweden will be an attractive travel alternative, says Marco Andersson, commercial manager for Snälltåget.
The initiative is part of SkiStar's work to develop flexible and more sustainable transport solutions to the company's destinations in Scandinavia. The train journey is powered by renewable electricity, and the connecting bus transfer is run with HVO100.
Price and booking
The price for a train journey and connecting bus transfer to Sälenfjällen starts from 399 SEK per person. Package trips with train, transfer bus, accommodation and SkiPass are booked via SkiStar. Only train journeys with bus transfer are booked via Snälltåget's regular booking channels.
