Yesterday, Sunday 1 June, the inauguration of SkyUp Airlines' first direct flight between Stockholm Skavsta Airport and Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, was celebrated. The new route marks a milestone in Swedish aviation history – never before has Sweden had a direct connection with Moldova.

The ceremony was held in the departure hall at Stockholm Skavsta Airport, where representatives from the airport, the Embassy of Moldova and SkyUp Airlines, among others, participated along with the first passengers. Guests were treated to speeches, a ribbon cutting and snacks at the gate before the inaugural flight took off and was waved off.

– We are proud to welcome SkyUp Airlines to Stockholm Skavsta and the launch of this historic direct route. Connecting Sweden with Moldova opens doors for new meetings, experiences and business opportunities. We are happy to be part of the development, says Brett Weihart, CEO of Stockholm Skavsta Airport.

– This is the beginning of something historic. I would like to extend a big thank you to Stockholm Skavsta Airport and SkyUp Airlines for this fantastic opportunity. An unforgettable journey awaits, said Ilinca Sirbu, First Secretary Consular Affairs from the Embassy of Moldova, in her speech during the opening ceremony.

Arnold Borja, Head of Airport Development at Sky Up Airlines, welcomed all travelers aboard the inaugural flight:
– We are pleased to be here and look forward to continuing our discussions on the possibility of developing and launching more flights to Skavsta. We wish all passengers a pleasant and safe flight and a nice stay in Chișinău.

The flight to Chișinău will operate year-round with two departures a week – Tuesdays and Sundays. Tickets are available from EUR 46 via www.skyup.aero.

Moldova is often described as a hidden European gem, known for its scenic landscapes, award-winning vineyards and hospitable culture. The capital, Chișinău, also serves as a convenient gateway for onward travel to countries such as Ukraine.
