Heavy snowfall with subsequent rain is heading towards parts of Svealand and all of Norrland tonight. SMHI has issued a class 1 warning.

– The snow is turning into rain and it can be difficult with slippery roads, says meteorologist Malva Lindborg.

The snowfall has already started and during the night an area of precipitation is moving north across Sweden. Initially the snowfall will be extensive, according to Malva Lindborg. However, the amount is expected to vary in different parts of the country.

– Generally, the warnings are between 10 to 20 centimeters, but in Dalarna up to 20–25 centimeters, says Malva Lindborg to TT.

First snow – then rain. In other words, the traffic situation can become difficult. Götaland and the Stockholm area will avoid the snowfall, the warnings mainly concern western Svealand and Norrland, while strong winds are expected in the mountain areas. Gale warnings are in place for large parts of the Baltic Sea, as well as the Kattegat and Skagerak.

However, the temporary winter will be quickly interrupted by subsequent rains, and temperatures will remain around zero.

Warmer air is on the way in southern Sweden, according to SMHI. In Skåne, local temperatures could reach around 15 degrees Celsius later this week.
