SMHI warns of ice slips in the north

It has already snowed a bit in the north, and with a milder precipitation area coming in from the south, there is a high risk of ice.

– It is well worth taking it easy on the roads, says Lovisa Andersson, meteorologist at SMHI.

In the coming days, continued autumn rain is expected - from south to north - with precipitation in the form of snow, rain and freezing rain.

Thursday looks to be an in-between day with slightly drier weather conditions, but then new areas of precipitation will find their way in. And it's mostly about rain, except for the northernmost part of Norrland, where it continues to snow.

After the unusually warm and prolonged summer, winter has now taken hold of large parts of the country. In some places even a little earlier than normal.

– Meteorological winter has arrived in northern Norrland, down across southern Norrland, northern Dalarna and also on the border with Värmland, says Lovisa Andersson.

And in Dalarna and Värmland, meteorological winter is slightly earlier than normal. Meteorological winter means five consecutive days with daily average temperatures below zero degrees every single day.

– Winter usually settles in this area by the end of October. It is at the Dalarna-Värmland border that it comes a little early. Normally it comes here more towards the beginning of November, but that can also be a normal variation, says Lovisa Andersson.
