The enormous amounts of snow that have fallen in the Alps over the past week continue to cause problems.

More than 20 people have died and new avalanche warnings have been issued. In Bavaria in southern Germany, thousands are working to shovel snow from roofs that are at risk of collapsing.

Snowfall has paralyzed parts of Europe in recent days. Mountain villages have been cut off, roads have been closed and schools have been closed. In the Swiss Alps, an avalanche swept through a hotel restaurant on Friday, injuring three people.

In Austria, hundreds of soldiers are working to clear nearly two meters of snow from rooftops. On Saturday, new avalanche warnings were issued in the country, which is at the second highest level, and an avalanche erupted outside Salzburg, the APA news agency reports.

At least 21 weather-related deaths have been reported on the continent in the past ten days, Deutsche Welle reports. In Germany, a nine-year-old boy died on Thursday after being hit by a falling tree, and in Austria, seven skiers and snowboarders have died since last Saturday.

The snow has also caused problems in Bavaria in southern Germany. A number of people had to spend the night of Saturday in their cars on the A8 autobahn and 90 flights were canceled at Munich airport on Friday, Reuters reports. About 5,000 rescue workers are out shoveling snow from roads and roofs that are at risk of collapsing.
