On April 20, Sofiero Castle and Castle Garden will open its gates for the 2023 season. The program offers a variety of inspiring garden exhibitions, events and flower experiences.

Spring at Sofiero means flamboyant tulips and daffodils, warm sunshine and a desire to garden. The first flowers of the year are appearing in the flower beds and the Vinhuset is filled with inspiring creations by florist Sophie Wiking, who is behind the popular Instagram account @florista_studio_. The park offers blooming installations and the edible exhibition ”The Good Garden” is entering its second year of enjoyable, edible and sustainable cultivation. This summer, Sofiero Classic is back – now for two whole days, 10–11 June. The season also offers the traditional Midsummer celebration on 23 June, Garden Days on 17–27 August, the end of the late summer season on 23 September and the popular Autumn Lights on 29 October–12 November.

During the spring, a renovation of the castle will begin, which will be upgraded to create better public spaces and be able to accommodate more visitors. The park will remain open as usual throughout the season and the castle will reopen to the public in spring 2024. During the renovation period, the Sofiero castle restaurant will move its operations outside and will become an exciting feature of the park. The Orangery will remain open as in previous years and welcomes all visitors to enjoy homemade coffee bread and light dishes. 

A long-awaited piece of news is that Sofiero's popular play area is expanding further. An adventure trail is being built among the trees with a focus on accessibility.

PROGRAM SEASON 2023 

With a sense of spring: April 20–May 7

For three weeks you can enjoy signs of spring, blooming installations and activities in the park and garden. Workshops, guided tours and experiences for the whole family. Spring flowers bloom in the flower beds and on Fridays Sofiero's garden designer Sara Bratt gives spring flower guided tours in the park. Don't miss our big flea market – a flea market with props from previous exhibitions and events.

Ice skating in the garden: April 20–23

Castle + flea market = flea market. We sell props from previous events and exhibitions, books and garden items. If you are hoping to find a forgotten treasure from the castle, we unfortunately have to disappoint you. There is nothing from the king's time at the flea market, but all the more good and varied.

Inspiring installations: April 20–May 7

We invite you to an inspiring flower exhibition in Vinhuset, signed by florist Sophie Wiking, who is behind the popular Instagram account Florist. Also discover flourishing installations in the park created by The Kullaflorist or Happy Flowers.

Children's Sofiero: April 20–May 7

Take a guided tour or go on an expedition and explore places you might not normally visit at Sofiero. For the children, there are fun and educational activities around the park. How about a story time at Barnens Sofiero? Don't forget to run a lap in the maze, explore the high-altitude track at the playground and have a coffee in the grass.

Exhibitions / Events

The Good Garden: April 20–September 23

A perennial ornamental garden designed by our garden designer Sara Bratt. Here we learn more about growing enjoyable, sustainable and edible plants.

Sofiero Classic: June 10–11

A unique exhibition with classic vehicles from the past and present. Fascination and inspiration combined with displays, competitions and activities for the whole family – now for two whole days!

Midsummer celebration: June 23

Sofiero invites you to a traditional celebration in the park with pole dancing and activities for the whole family.

Slow flowers – from seed to Friday bouquet: July–September

In July, the kitchen garden is transformed into a cut flower garden created by landscape architect Mona Wembling. Here you can get inspiration for your own cultivation and read more about which varieties work best in a vase.

Garden Days: August 17–27

The Garden Days at Sofiero offer something for all ages. For ten days, the park is filled with garden inspiration, exhibitions, workshops and lectures.

Season end September 23

Traditional end of the season in the park. Here you have the opportunity to buy a piece of Sofiero in the form of flower bouquets, fruit and cuttings.

Autumn Lights: October 29–November 12

Popular Autumn Lights create brilliant experiences as darkness descends. Sofiero lights up and invites you to magical autumn evenings in the park, with activities for the whole family.

Blossom in the park

Spring bloom: April–May

This year's spring blooms have a romantic shimmer to them, with sheer pink tones and dramatic touches of black, purple and red. They feature bold new arrivals such as the vivarium and the Great Barrier Reef tulip. 

Rhododendron flowering: May–June

From mid-May to mid-June, thousands of shrubs bloom in the park. The bloom is the highlight of the year and attracts visitors from all over the world.

Summer flowers: June–August

Summer Flowers is inspired by the recent boom in small-scale cut flower growing and a new creative way of working with flower arrangements. Zinnia, rudbeckia, clematis and snapdragons mingle in the flower beds. In Alphuset, a fine collection of geraniums appears.

Late summer bloom: August–September

At the end of summer, the Dahlia Quarter explodes with intense colors. Over 30 different varieties of dahlias bloom here in every conceivable shade and shape.

Food and drink

When the castle is renovated, Sofiero Castle Restaurant will temporarily move its operations outside and will become an exciting feature of the park. The Orangery will remain open as in previous years, and welcomes all visitors to enjoy homemade coffee bread, freshly baked pizzas and light dishes. There is something here for all tastes – big and small.

Concert summer at Sofiero

Over the years, both Swedish and international stars have invited the audience to concerts in front of the castle. In the summer of 2023, Sofiero will be visited by a number of artists. The concerts are arranged by external production companies.
