Scandic has recruited Sophie Helin to the position of Hotel Director at Downtown Camper by Scandic. Sophie has been locally involved with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise in Uppsala in recent years and has extensive experience in mentoring, both through Scandic's internal leadership program and for entrepreneurs, including as a mentor in ALMI Uppland. She has a solid career in the hospitality industry and most recently came from the role of Hotel Director at Scandic's two hotels in Uppsala.

Sophie Helin has worked at Scandic since 2004 and during her years at the company has gathered a wide range of experience from both assignments in financial management and through operational, leading positions around the country. She has a master's degree in economics and is a certified coach in leadership and personal development. Now she is taking the step into Downtown Camper by Scandic, a signature hotel with 494 rooms located in the heart of central Stockholm. The hotel has a clear profile where the big city meets nature and adventure that will attract the urban explorer. Stockholmers and internationally arriving guests meet here, both in the business and private segments.

– After working in the hospitality industry for almost 20 years, I am incredibly honored to take on the challenge as Hotel Director at Downtown Camper by Scandic, a very exciting meeting place that attracts guests from all over the world. Despite my many years in the industry, this assignment is something completely new and very exciting. The hotel has a unique offering where guests are invited to what we call our ”base camp” here you get the feeling that food is served directly from the campfire, canoes dangle from the ceiling and well-being and community are at the center. We focus on the meeting between people in a cool environment, which I am looking forward to working with, says Sophie Helin, newly appointed Hotel Director at Downtown Camper by Scandic.

Sophie will be directly tasked with continuing to develop Downtown Camper by Scandic's unique offering with a strong focus on the hotel's penthouse - the urban retreat The Nest. She will also continue to work as a leading mentor within Scandic in Stockholm and central Sweden.

– Together with my colleagues, I look forward to welcoming guests to a real outdoor experience in the middle of the city and not least to our wonderful penthouse, The Nest, which offers a pool, gym, bar and views of the heart of Stockholm, concludes Sophie Helin.

– I am very pleased that Sophie is now taking on the role of Hotel Director at Downtown Camper by Scandic. She has solid experience and an outstanding ability to coach and build large teams of employees. The hotel is frequented by everyone from die-hard outdoor enthusiasts to business travelers, and I am convinced that her many years of experience in creating world-class guest experiences and broad expertise will continue to drive our signature hotel with full force ahead of a fast-paced summer in Stockholm's inner city, says Joakim Elveroth, District Director for Scandic Hotels.

Sophie Helin assumed her role as hotel director in April 2023.
