The American airline Southwest Airlines says that 15 percent of its administrative employees – approximately 1,750 people – will be laid off this year, as part of a cost-cutting package.
”"This decision is unprecedented in our 53-year history, and change requires us to make difficult decisions," CEO Bob Jordan said in a press release. according to CNBC.
”We are at a pivotal time as we transform Southwest Airlines into a leaner, faster, and more agile organization,” he continues.
The layoffs will mostly be carried out at the end of the second quarter.
The goal is net savings of $210 million (just over SEK 2.2 billion) this year and approximately $300 million next year.
