From November 23, air passengers from countries with a high risk of corona infection must present a negative test that is no more than 72 hours old to enter Spain, the country's health ministry says.

Spain has a total of 1,417,709 cases of infection and 40,105 deaths but has so far not had general requirements for negative tests for entry.

Now the EU's criteria for risk assessment of countries will be used and the test result must be in Spanish or English to be valid.

According to Health Minister Salvador Illa, the provision will apply to all countries with over 150 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

The same limit will apply to EU countries. In the EU group, the rules also apply to countries with at least 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and which at the same time also have more than four percent positive results from all tests performed.

No tests will be carried out at the Spanish border, but the government is urging airlines to check that passengers have taken PCR tests before boarding the aircraft.
