After being closed for more than three months, the land border between France and Spain will reopen. The opening date is set for June 22, announced Spain's Minister of Industry and Tourism Reyes Maroto at a press conference on Thursday.

”"Regarding France and Portugal, I can confirm that travel restrictions will be lifted from June 22," the minister said.

She also added that this means that the mandatory two-week quarantine will be ”in principle” lifted for those traveling by land between the countries. However, for travelers by boat and plane, the quarantine period will most likely apply until July 1.

”This is very important as it means we can once again welcome both French and Portuguese tourists,” the minister added.

In the second half of June, 6,000 German tourists will also be allowed to travel to the Balearic Islands, the Spanish archipelago that includes Mallorca. Tourism accounts for around 12 percent of Spain's economy.
