Spain is introducing a two-week quarantine requirement for travelers arriving from abroad starting Friday.

During that time, they will only be allowed to go out to buy food, visit healthcare facilities or for other special reasons. The rules are expected to apply until May 24, when the current state of emergency ends, but may be extended.

The decision comes at a time when Spain is slowly beginning to ease the strict restrictions that have been in place since mid-March.

The rules are likely to delay the recovery of the country's tourism industry, which has been hit hard by the lockdown. Tourism accounts for around 12 percent of Spain's GDP.
