Swedish citizens flying into Landvetter from the UK or arriving here by ferry will be allowed in, but others will be turned away. Stena Line continues its trips to Denmark from Gothenburg and Halmstad despite the entry ban.
– We follow the recommendations, focus on freight traffic, but do not make any decisions of our own, says Carl Mårtensson, press manager at Stena Line.
The background to the new strict restrictions is a new mutation of the coronavirus, which is said to be up to 70 percent more contagious and which has spread in both the UK and Denmark. The ban applies from midnight.
The entry ban does not apply to Swedish citizens, who cannot be prevented from traveling home. However, the Public Health Agency will decide what rules will apply to Swedes returning to the country from Denmark or the UK.
– The entry ban from Denmark excludes, in addition to Swedish citizens, other people who live or work in Sweden as well as people who transport goods, says Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg (S).
”Doesn't make any decisions on their own”
According to Carl Mårtensson, their focus will be on freight traffic and those who have to travel for work. But he also says that it is not they themselves who choose who enters the country.
– We follow the recommendations, focus on freight traffic, but do not make any decisions of our own. It is the border police that decides who should enter the country, says Carl Mårtensson, press manager at Stena Line.
