The Danish resort of Skagen is once again plagued by a strong stench from the city's sewage treatment plant.

– It's a disgusting smell. A mixture of sewage and rotten eggs, says municipal politician Jane Bengtsen to Danish Radio.

She has now requested a report from the municipal company Frederikshavn Forsyning on how the problem should be solved.

According to the company, the smell this year is caused by hydrogen sulfide in the wastewater from the city's fishing industry. Last year, the stench came from other parts of the treatment plant.

Frederikshavn Forsyning states that measures have already been taken and hopes to eliminate the smell before the summer is over, but cannot provide a timetable for when the problems will be completely resolved.
