Financier Patrik Brummer's star restaurant Fäviken Magasinet in Jämtland is closing at the end of the year. This was announced by the internationally renowned chef Magnus Nilsson in a press release.
”Strategically, this is by no means a wise decision,” Magnus Nilsson tells the LA Times.
Magnus Nilsson is leaving on a high. Fäviken Magasinet was recently crowned Sweden's best restaurant by the Swedish restaurant guide White Guide and has two stars in the French Guide Michelin.
Magnus Nilsson has run Fäviken Magasinet for just over ten years, but is only 35 years old. But that's enough, he believes, and hints that he is exhausted.
”I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit tired after constantly pushing the restaurant's development forward,” he writes in the press release.
A measure of Magnus Nilsson's international status is that he has given a single interview about his decision to close the restaurant, and that was to the Los Angeles Times. Otherwise, he has made himself unavailable.
The last day that Fäviken Magasinet will be open is Saturday 14 December. The charcuterie factory and shop in Undersåker, which are owned by Fäviken, will continue their operations.
Magnus Nilsson himself will be devoting himself to his family, he has four children, fishing, gardening, writing, resting and getting back into shape both physically and mentally.
Those who are Those curious to see what he will do next don't need to do anything, he announces.
”I will send you an email when I have something to announce,” he states in the press release.
The last six months at Fäviken Magasinet are ”business as usual”. All tables are booked for the rest of the year, and it's precisely because of this that Magnus Nilsson decided to announce his decision now. He doesn't want guests to be drawn by the news itself that this is the last chance to eat at Sweden's most internationally famous restaurant.
The restaurant is located on Patrik Brummer's country estate on the back of Åreskutan, just across the courtyard from the house. Brummer and his family are thanked, not least for allowing Magnus Nilsson complete creative freedom to develop the New Nordic Kitchen.
He himself signed off, stating that he was leaving at the top of his game, and said in the press release, which is in English:
”We have truly never been better.”
