As the storm moved in on Sunday evening, train services, ferries and roads were affected. Several bridges were closed and around 15,000 households were without power.
The Class 2 storm warning applies to Västra Götaland, Halland, Skåne, Öland and Gotland. The rest of the southern parts of the country will also experience very strong winds.
Traffic on a number of train routes that are not protected against falling trees had been cancelled in advance. In addition, trains between Eksjö and Nässjö had to be cancelled.
”"Four trains are affected when the route is closed for 24 hours. Several trees have been blown down on the track," explains Thomas Johansson, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration.
Fallen trees have affected many roads in the southern and western parts of the country.
”"There are some problems with it, but the Swedish Transport Administration is taking care of it. There is a lot to do, but we were prepared for that," says Thomas Johansson.
Both the Öresund Bridge and the Uddevalla Bridge were forced to close due to the severe weather. The Angered Bridge has also been closed. A truck trailer has overturned there, and it is not possible to recover the trailer due to the storm. Later in the evening, a truck accident also occurred on the Tjörn Bridge, which was closed.
”"Police, ambulance and rescue services are on their way there, but I'm guessing the situation is the same as at Angeredsbron, that it's not possible to recover due to the weather," says Martin Hallberg, duty officer at the police.
By 11 p.m. Sunday evening, over 15,000 customers of the three largest electricity companies were without power.
”"Almost all power outages are due to the storm. Due to the safety risk, the installers are not out in the field, but we are trying to fix the faults in other ways," says Mikael Petrovic Wågmark, press manager at Vattenfall.
Martin Callmeryd, at Eon's press office, says that the company has extra staff to fix power outages and that they are working full time.
On Sunday evening, SMHI's stations along the west coast registered wind speeds of 28-30 meters per second, i.e. a storm.
”"It's blowing pretty well, and we expect the wind to increase and culminate sometime between nine and eleven tonight," says Marcus Sjöstedt, meteorologist at SMHI.
It is also very windy over land, for example, early Sunday evening it was 22 meters per second at Landvetter. The east coast is also very windy, with 24 meters per second on Gotland. In Stockholm, wind speeds of 21-24 meters per second are expected.
”"The gusts will begin to subside slowly during the night, first in the west. It will take longer before it subsides over Gotland, it will only happen in the morning," says Marcus Sjöstedt.
It is raining heavily over the Norrland coast, rain that falls on cold roads and can therefore cause slippage on Monday. SMHI has therefore issued class 1 warnings for sudden ice slippage over Gävleborg, Västernorrland, Jämtland and Västerbotten.
The storm is also affecting the water level. SMHI has issued warnings for high water levels from the southern Bothnian Sea all the way up into the Gulf of Bothnia. According to SMHI's oceanographer, Josefina Algotsson, the wind is pushing up the water so that it rises significantly in the north. In the southern Baltic Sea and the Belts, the opposite is true, with water levels falling, and SMHI is warning of low water levels.
The storm is part of the same major low pressure as the European storm Ciara. However, the storm has not been given a name here.
