Strike threat forces Finnair to cancel flights

The threat of Finnish sympathy strikes is forcing the airline Finnair to cancel 24 flights on Sunday and Monday.

A heated dispute over the conditions of Finnish postal workers threatens to escalate if the parties fail to reach an agreement. Extensive sympathy strikes have been announced for Monday and negotiations are underway on Sunday.

But the conflict has already had an impact. The threat that ground staff and customer service at Vantaa-Helsinki Airport may go on a sympathy strike on Monday morning has forced the airline Finnair to cancel eight flights on Sunday and 16 on Monday.

Among the stopped flights are two flights to Hong Kong and Beijing, respectively, as well as Stockholm-Helsinki.

The announcement about a possible solution to the conflict is expected at 4:30 p.m. Swedish time.
