A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred in the sea between Jamaica and Cuba at 9:10 p.m., Swedish time.

This is stated by the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The newspaper Jamaica Observer states that the quake lasted for several seconds and was felt throughout the island.

At the same time, the tremors caused the Miami police to evacuate several buildings, writes TT.

There are no reports yet of any injuries to people or buildings in connection with the incident.

Shortly afterwards, a tsunami warning was issued for Jamaica, Cuba and the Cayman Islands, but the warning was lifted after a couple of hours.
