Several earthquakes have shaken the southwestern coast of Greece.
The epicenter of the quake is near the tourist island of Zakynthos, which lost power after the quake.

“The lack of electricity is a problem,” says Spyros Georgiou of the rescue service.

The quake occurred on Friday night. The strongest, the second quake, reached a magnitude of 6.8 according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and was followed by four smaller quakes.

The epicenter of the earthquakes was in the Ionian Sea, about 46 kilometers from the island of Zakynthos, a common tourist destination, and about 133 kilometers from the city of Patras, which has just under 170,000 inhabitants.

Checking damage in villages
The port of Zakynthos has suffered some damage but there are no reports of serious injuries or deaths. Electricity has been cut on Zakynthos, reports the AP news agency.
