2.3 million passengers travelled with Norwegian in July, an increase of 100,000 passengers or 5 percent compared to the same month last year. Weather affects booking patterns and the trend is that many travellers book tickets close to their departure date.
The cabin load factor was 92.4 percent and capacity measured as seat kilometers increased by 12 percent year-on-year. During the month, the company had an average of 79 aircraft in operation.
Punctuality, which measures the proportion of departures within 15 minutes of the schedule, was 73.2 percent in July.
In booking, the company sees a trend of many customers booking their tickets close to departure, and this trend has continued in August.
”"The unstable weather in the Nordic region has clearly affected this summer's travel patterns and there have been steady ticket sales throughout July. I am really pleased that so many travelers are choosing to fly with us this summer, both domestically, in the Nordic region and in Europe. I would like to thank all colleagues who have taken care of passengers during the most travel-intensive period of the year. The fact that we have flown with our own aircraft and crew has contributed to stable operations this summer," says CEO Geir Karlsen in a written comment.
The low-cost airline Norwegian gained a large number of new shareholders in Sweden in connection with a restructuring in the wake of the corona pandemic and travel restrictions worldwide. At competitor Nordnet, 85,000 savers own the shares, including savers in Norway. The largest individual Swedish owner is Handelsbanken Fonder in eighth place on the ownership list with a stake of 2.5 percent of votes and capital.
The main owner of Norwegian is Norwegian shipping billionaire John Fredriksen, who controls just over 11.9 percent of the company, which is valued at around 9.8 billion Norwegian kroner.
The stock is up about 39 percent so far this year and rose another 1.3 percent on Friday afternoon to 10.20 Norwegian kroner.
