Strong quarter for EasyJet

The low-cost airline EasyJet saw its turnover rise by 14.4 per cent to 1.140 million pounds in the first quarter.

During the same period, passenger numbers rose by 8 per cent to 18.8 million.

Revenue per passenger rose by 13 per cent, whilst the load factor increased by 2.1 per cent to 92.1 per cent.

Passenger traffic, measured in RPK, totalled 20.7 million, an increase of 9.7 per cent.

During the quarter, EasyJet completed the acquisition of the bankrupt Air Berlin’s operations at Tegel Airport (Berlin) and launched its first flights on 5 January.

On the cost side, EasyJet states that Brexit-related costs are projected at one million pounds. The ongoing reorganisation within the company is also expected to weigh on first-quarter results by one million pounds.
