The American aircraft manufacturer Boeing has carried out a successful maiden flight with the new aircraft model 777X, which is the world's largest twin-engine jet aircraft.

The plane took off from an airport in Seattle in the western United States on Saturday and landed at the same location nearly four hours later. Two previous attempts to test fly the plane were canceled this week due to high winds.

Boeing expects the aircraft to enter service with the United Arab Emirates airline Emirates in 2021. The date has been postponed by a year after problems arose during the development of the aircraft model.

The Boeing 777X will be manufactured in two versions: 777-8 and 777-9 with capacity for 384 and 426 people respectively.

The aircraft manufacturer has faced major setbacks over the past year due to the grounding of the 737 Max aircraft, which has been hit by a fatal crash. Earlier this week, Boeing's stock fell after it emerged that the company expects the 737 Max to return to service by summer at the earliest.
