Reserving sun loungers with a towel several hours in advance is the vacation behavior that annoys Swedes the most, according to a new survey from hotel and travel search site momondo.
When Swedes list the behaviors that bother them the most during their vacation abroad, sunbed parking comes at the top, followed by noisy children in common areas and phone calls by the pool.
A total of 20 percent say towels on unmanned sun loungers are the most disruptive behavior. Children running around and screaming in common areas are in second place (15 percent), followed by loud phone and video calls by the pool (13 percent).
Guests who treat the hotel like a private party and people who push their way through the buffet line are also among the most common annoyances.
Generational differences
The survey also shows that different age groups are bothered by different things. Among Generation Z, 21 percent say noisy children are the biggest annoyance, compared to 13 percent among millennials.
“It often takes quite small things to be a valued fellow traveler. A little extra consideration around noise levels, shared spaces and how much space you take up can make a big difference to the holiday experience – both for yourself and others around you,” says Lisbet Due Berg, press officer at momondo.

Advice for a more enjoyable holiday
In light of the survey, momondo is urging travelers to be more considerate on vacation. Advice includes only using sun loungers when actually lying there, keeping noise levels down in common areas, respecting local norms, and remembering that not everyone wants to be social on vacation.
