Umeå Airport is now joining Umeå Municipality's new climate roadmap with a focus on accelerating Umeå's climate transition and reducing emissions through strengthened cooperation between various actors in the municipality. A total of 37 different stakeholders are participating in Umeå's climate roadmap. All stakeholders commit to adopting and completing at least five of the roadmap's climate challenges in their individual transition work.

– It is a natural step for us to join Umeå Municipality's climate roadmap as we have been actively working with climate-smart and sustainable solutions for the future of aviation for a long time. At Umeå Airport, we have a new and modern snow blower ready for the winter and all our blowers and machines run on fossil-free, renewable and environmentally friendly HVO 100 diesel. We heat all the airport's buildings with climate-neutral district heating, while in dialogue with the airlines we encourage the use of more modern, climate-smart aircraft. In addition, as an airport, we have also participated in various projects for the development of electric aviation and Umeå Airport could in the future develop into a regional hub for electric aviation in northern Sweden, says Bengt-Ove Lindgren, airport manager at Swedavia Umeå Airport.

Swedavia wants the future of travel to be sustainable. For many years, we have therefore actively worked towards a transition to more sustainable travel via our airports. We have changed and become completely fossil-free in our own airport operations in 2020. As part of the government's initiative Fossil-free Sweden We are also working on the goal that domestic flights will be completely fossil-free by 2030. For international traffic, all planes taking off from Swedavia's airports will be fossil-free by 2045.
