Swedavia is launching a new framework for issuing green bonds. The aim is to finance projects within climate change and sustainability. The framework has been reviewed by Sustainalytics, which has assessed the framework's sustainability contribution as "Significant".
– The new framework enables expanded green financing for Swedavia. The framework builds on the previous one, but has been further adapted to the EU taxonomy and includes more categories. However, the focus in the short term remains on the categories for green buildings, sustainable transport, and renewable energy and energy efficiency, says Kristina Ferenius, Swedavia's CFO.
In connection with the launch, Swedavia issued SEK 800 million of green bonds with great interest among investors at a credit margin of + 0.73 percent, and with a two-fold oversubscribed order book. This is the first issuance of senior bonds after Swedavia received an investment grade rating of Baa1 (positive outlook) from Moody's Ratings.
Swedavia's targeted sustainability work is appreciated by bond investors, as shown by the great interest in investing in Swedavia's green bonds.
The new green framework has included more categories, such as forests and renovation of existing infrastructure. The expansion also includes ambitious criteria to increase the use of sustainable building materials. The framework has been reviewed by Sustainalytics, which in its evaluation (second-party opinion) has confirmed that it is in line with market standards for green bonds and loans. Danske Bank has acted as an advisor in the development of the green financing framework.
Swedavia is a world leader in aviation's climate transition and in operating airports with minimal climate impact. The company became fossil-free in its own airport operations at the end of 2020 and has also come a long way in supporting external actors in their important transition in 2025.
Swedavia's goal is for ground transportation to and from airports to be fossil-free by 2030, and for construction and civil engineering operations to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. The long-term goal for the Swedish aviation industry is for domestic aviation to be fossil-free by 2030 and international aviation to be fossil-free by 2045 based on the aviation industry's joint roadmap within the framework of Fossil-Free Sweden.
