Traffic at state airport operator Swedavia's ten airports in Sweden amounted to 643,000 passengers in September, which is a decrease of 83 percent from the same period the previous year.

Travel this year has been strongly affected by the corona pandemic with many flights canceled during the spring.

”"During the summer months, we saw a cautious recovery in air traffic, but the development stagnated in September with weak demand for both business and leisure travel. The uncertainty surrounding restrictions and the development of the pandemic means that there is continued great uncertainty about how air traffic will develop in the coming months and when the recovery can take hold," says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO.

The number of international and domestic travelers was 369,000 and 274,000 respectively, which is a decrease of 86 and 76 percent for the two categories.

The number of passengers at Stockholm Arlanda Airport fell by 83 percent and at Gothenburg Landvetter by 85 percent.

Luleå Airport fared best both in September and over the past nine-month period, with a decrease of 67 percent and 61 percent respectively.
