Despite tough economic times, traffic at Swedish airports continues to recover after the pandemic. Swedavia CEO Jonas Abrahamsson believes there will be many travelers ahead of the summer.
In February, 2.1 million travelers passed through one of Swedavia's airports, an increase of almost 80 percent compared to the same period last year.
”"In connection with the sports holidays, we saw a strengthening demand for air travel, although it is still some way off from pre-pandemic levels," says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO, in a press release.
According to Swedavia, it is primarily the strong demand for international travel via Arlanda that is driving up the figures, which in February were 75 percent of the pandemic-free 2019. Arlanda's traffic, just over 1.4 million, was more than four times as large as the traffic from Landvetter, which had the second highest number. Most trips went to Spain, followed by the UK and Germany.
Jonas Abrahamsson believes in a continued recovery as more and more people book their summer vacation.
”"Everything continues to point towards a travel-intensive summer and we are preparing accordingly," he says.
