More international travellers and increased commercial revenue at Swedavia's airports had a positive impact on net sales during the second quarter of the year, despite a continued uncertain macroeconomic situation. Net sales continued to increase and amounted to SEK 1,674 million (1,539) during the second quarter. Cash flow from operating activities strengthened further and amounted to SEK 297 million (164) during the second quarter. Operating profit continues to improve and amounted to SEK 167 million, which is SEK 162 million better than the previous year. Profit before tax was again positive and amounted to SEK 96 million during the second quarter of the year.
During the second quarter, 8.8 million people traveled to or from Swedavia's ten airports, which is an increase of almost one percent compared to last year. During January-June 2024, 15.6 million travelers traveled via Swedavia. This is an increase of almost one percent compared to the first half of 2023. The increase is driven by continued strong international travel, especially within Europe, primarily via Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Gothenburg Landvetter Airport. In parallel with the increased international trend, domestic travel continued to decline during the second quarter of the year.
– During the second quarter, an increased number of international travelers, fee adjustments and an improved commercial offering led to an increase in net sales of SEK 134 million compared to the corresponding period last year. Operating profit continues to improve and amounted to SEK 167 million, which is SEK 162 million better than the previous year. Cash flow from operating activities increased by SEK 133 million and amounted to SEK 297 million. It is also pleasing that in the second quarter of this year we were again able to report a positive result before tax of SEK 96 million, says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's CEO and Group Chief Executive.

The airlines have continued to invest in new traffic via Swedavia's airports. This year's summer traffic program will launch 25 new routes, of which 17 are new routes via Stockholm Arlanda Airport and 8 are new routes via Gothenburg Landvetter Airport. Charter operations will also be added to four of Swedavia's airports, Malmö Airport, Luleå Airport, Umeå Airport and Åre Östersund Airport, during the summer. With Air Canada's investment in traffic to both Montreal and Toronto via Arlanda, intercontinental traffic between Sweden and all of Canada and North America will be strengthened.
– For several years, we have made major investments to further improve the passenger experience at our airports. The commercial offering continues to develop, the airlines have continued to strengthen their route and destination offerings, and our operational flows are more efficient. These investments are welcomed by our passengers and have contributed to stronger customer satisfaction, says Jonas Abrahamsson.
During the year, the focus on expanding the commercial offering at Swedavia's airports has continued, with the majority of new concepts at Arlanda's new marketplace.
