During April, just over 2.6 million travelers chose to travel via Swedavia's ten airports. This is an increase of just under 1.5 percent compared to April last year.
The development continues to be driven by increased demand for international travel primarily from Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The airlines continue to strengthen Swedish accessibility at Swedavia's airports. In this year's summer traffic program, a total of 25 new routes have been launched so far, of which 10 are completely new destinations. In addition, the airlines have strengthened their charter offering ahead of the summer season at four of Swedavia's airports, Malmö Airport, Luleå Airport, Umeå Airport and Östersund Airport.
"Demand for international travel at our airports continues to increase, while the range of destinations has been strengthened in connection with the summer traffic program. At the same time, the weaker development of domestic travel persists, although there are regional differences. Overall, we expect continued increased travel during the summer season," says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO.
So far, 25 new flight routes have been launched for the 2024 summer season – with around ten completely new destinations. The charter offering has also been developed for the summer season at Malmö Airport, Åre Östersund, Umeå Airport and Luleå Airport.

During April, just over 2.6 million passengers traveled through Swedavia's ten airports, which is just over 1 percent higher compared to April 2023. International travel increased by 4 percent to nearly 2 million passengers, while domestic travel decreased by 5 percent to nearly 660,000 passengers. Overall travel at Swedavia's airports during the month of April is 82 percent of pre-pandemic levels, 2019.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport had just over 1.8 million passengers in April, which is an increase of 5 percent compared to April last year. International travel increased by 8 percent to almost 1.6 million passengers, while domestic travel decreased by 8 percent to just over 275,000 passengers. Overall, passenger levels at Stockholm Arlanda in April are at 91 percent of pre-pandemic levels, 2019.
Gothenburg Landvetter Airport had a total of nearly 429,000 passengers in April, which is on par with last year's April. International travel increased by 2 percent to just over 381,000 passengers, while domestic travel decreased by 14 percent to just over 47,000 passengers. Passenger levels at Gothenburg Landvetter in April are at 78 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
Other Swedavia airports had a varying development during April. Ronneby Airport, followed by Kiruna Airport, is the regional airport with the best development both during April compared to April last year. Luleå Airport, followed by Kiruna Airport, has the best development in April compared to before the pandemic. Malmö Airport, followed by Visby Airport, had the weakest development in April compared to April 2023.
