In November, Swedavia's airports had almost 2.4 million passengers, which is an increase of 1 percent compared to November last year. International travel, mainly at Stockholm Arlanda but also Gothenburg Landvetter, continued to drive the development, but demand weakened somewhat. The slowdown in domestic travel persisted and during the month was around 65 percent of domestic travel before the pandemic.
-Air travel overall increased slightly during November, but the weaker economy is now expected to affect passenger numbers. International travel, primarily at Stockholm Arlanda and Gothenburg Landvetter, increased by approximately 5 percent compared to the corresponding month last year, which was a somewhat weaker development compared to previous months. At the same time, domestic travel decreased, which is worrying and poses a risk if this development continues to lead to a reduced range of destinations, higher ticket prices and overall poorer accessibility both within Sweden and to the rest of the world, says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO.
Of the 2.4 million travelers during the month, 1.7 million were international travelers, an increase of 5 percent compared to November 2022, which was a weaker rate of increase compared to the 8 percent increase in September and October, respectively. Domestic travel decreased by 6 percent to nearly 700,000 travelers.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport had nearly 1.7 million travelers during the month, an increase of 5 percent compared to November last year. International travel increased by 7 percent to just over 1.3 million travelers, while domestic travel decreased by 5 percent to nearly 300,000 travelers.
Gothenburg Landvetter Airport had just over 360,000 passengers in November, which is an increase of 3 percent compared to November last year. International travel increased by 6 percent to just over 300,000 passengers, while domestic travel decreased by 10 percent to 54,000 passengers.
Other Swedavia airports had a varying development during November, but the trend was predominantly negative compared to November 2022. Travel at Kiruna Airport, Ronneby Airport, Umeå Airport and Åre Östersund Airport was almost in line with travel in November last year. Malmö Airport and Bromma Stockholm Airport had a weaker development compared to other airports and travel decreased by 21 percent and 17 percent respectively compared to November the previous year. Luleå Airport remains the regional airport that had the best traffic development during November compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
