Air travel via Swedavia's airports continues to increase during the month of October. Overall, air travel increased by one percent compared to October 2023. The development is driven by continued strong demand for international travel. International travel increased by five percent while domestic travel decreased by seven percent. At Arlanda and Landvetter, international travel increased by seven and two percent respectively.
-Demand for international travel continues to be strong. Several airlines are investing in developing their route offerings in this year's winter traffic program, including Norwegian at Arlanda and Landvetter and WizzAir at Malmö. However, demand on the domestic market has been weak, especially in southern Sweden, which is contributing to the decrease in the supply of departures, says Jonas Abrahamsson, Swedavia's President and CEO.
New flight routes (selection):
Arlanda – Hurghada, Agadir and Tromsø with Norwegian
Arlanda – Trollhättan with Västflyg
Landvetter – Hurghada, Tenerife and Marrakesh with Norwegian
Malmö – Bucharest and Iasi with WizzAir
Additional openings will be added during the winter of 2024 in the airlines' new traffic programs.
Freight development has also strengthened since the 2024 summer season as demand has increased and airlines have added intercontinental traffic.
