Last Saturday, young people and associations gathered all over the country to clean up trash from Sweden's beaches.

The result was that a whopping 13 tons of garbage disappeared – just over 30 percent more than last year.

The initiative is a global project, and in Sweden it is Pantamera and Städa Sverige that are behind the event. In total, young people in more than 100 countries joined forces to clean beaches around the world.

Last year, around 1,900 people participated in the clean-up campaign in Sweden, this year forecasts indicate that this number has increased to around 2,300. The increased interest has meant that it has been possible to clean up in more places than before and thus collect more trash.
