The growing travel trend coolcation – vacationing in places with cooler temperatures – is attracting more and more travelers who want to avoid the scorching sun and oppressive heat. The trend has been highlighted by Condé Nast Traveller as one of the most important travel trends of 2024 and reflects the increasing demand for milder climates that also enable more active holidays in calmer environments. In Booking.com's Nine Predictions for Travel in 2025 42% indicates that they prefer to vacation in cooler destinations and 54% that they will increase their evening activities to avoid rising daytime temperatures.
In Sweden, Swedes' Google searches* on hiking increased by 26% and web traffic (among Swedes) on Visit Sweden's website has increased by 21%, where interest in, among other things, the Stockholm archipelago and the recently inaugurated Stockholm Archipelago Trail has increased by 85%.
