More and more Swedes are choosing to travel abroad during the late summer. Bookings for trips departing in August and September have increased by over 17 percent compared to last year – and the trend is clearly pointing upwards.

After a summer of changeable weather, many are choosing to travel during the late summer. According to recent figures from travel agency Ticket, interest in international travel in August and September has grown significantly compared to last year – bookings have increased by over 17 percent.

– We see a clear trend where more and more people want to extend the holiday feeling and enjoy the sun and warmth or the pulse of the big city as autumn approaches back home in Sweden. At the same time, it is often significantly cheaper to travel during late summer, which is something that obviously attracts many, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR & communications manager at travel agency Ticket.

Just like last year, Spain is at the top, and the three most popular destinations are again Mallorca, Malaga and Alicante. But there are three other destinations that are growing the fastest right now. Barcelona climbs from ninth to fifth place on Ticket's top list with a booking increase of a whopping 46 percent compared to last year. London moves up to fourth place with an increase of over 21 percent. At the same time, Rome enters the top list as a new destination – bookings there have increased by 30 percent compared to the same period last year.
