A sudden change in weather left a group of 65 travelers, several of whom were Swedish, stranded on King George Island in Antarctica. In addition to the travelers, a number of guides and a ship's doctor were also stranded on the island, twelve miles from the Antarctic mainland, due to severe weather on Sunday. They had gone ashore in small boats from the ship M/S Ocean Nova, which was still out at sea.
“They couldn't return to the ship safely. It was safer to stay on land,” says Marie Lannborn Barker. On Monday evening, everyone was back on board the ship.
