Taxi Stockholm has recently won an important victory in the Stockholm District Court where the Patent and Market Court ruled in favor of the company in a trademark infringement dispute. The trial was initiated after the number of complaints increased at Taxi Stockholm when customers mistakenly entered taxis that imitate the company's brand, also known as copycabs.
The judgment, which was announced on November 5, means that the Patent and Market Court prohibits the convicted company from using its current roof lamp that imitates Taxi Stockholm and the text combination “TAXI STOCKHOLM”, with a fine in case of violations. The company is also ordered to pay damages of just under SEK 200,000 to Taxi Stockholm and to bear the legal costs.
– We are pleased with the court's decision. It is crucial that we protect our brand and ensure that our customers can feel safe when they choose us, says Henrik Boström, Marketing Manager at Taxi Stockholm.
This is not the first time Taxi Stockholm has taken another taxi company to court for trademark infringement. In 2022, Taxi Stockholm won in the Patent and Market Court after taking legal action against a company whose name was similar to Taxi Stockholm's. This resulted in the company being forced to change its name and pay significant damages.
– To avoid being misled as a traveler, we recommend that you book your trip via our app. If you want to flag down a taxi on the street or in a queue at, for example, Centralen or Arlanda, you should check that it says ”Taxi Stockholm 15 00 00” on the car, Henrik concludes.
