Temporary stop for new passports

Remove

The police passport system will be closed for three days to undergo an update.

At that time, no passports or national ID cards will be issued and no provisional passports will be issued.

The stoppage will occur at the end of the month, from Friday, November 30 to Sunday, December 2. This means that you will not be able to pick up a passport or national ID card during those days. The reason is that the police system for passports and ID cards will be upgraded. All passport offices in Västmanland, Uppsala County and Gävleborg County will not be able to issue passports or national ID cards, but anyone who has booked an appointment to submit an application can do so.

"The timing has been chosen so that as few people as possible will be affected. Normally, the number of applications is low this weekend and we expect it to be the same this year," says Emelie Lindvall, process manager for travel documents at the police, in a press release.

Be out in good time
The police therefore urge those who are going to travel abroad to be out in good time.

Those who have booked an appointment to submit a passport application during the three days can still come in and passport offices with drop-in times are open as usual. However, the case will take longer because everything has to be processed manually, according to the police.

But anyone who is going to travel and has forgotten their passport should beware. Neither in Västerås nor at Stockholm-Arlanda will temporary passports be issued. And if you have lost or forgotten your passport, you will have to wait until the weekend is over.

– The police are allowed to issue provisional passports but have no obligation to do so and in connection with the transition we have no opportunity. It is therefore extra important to be careful and not forget your passport this weekend, says Emelie Lindvall.
