Thailand is introducing new visa regulations and is also preparing the launch of a new mobile app that will simplify entry for international visitors.
The new visa regulations have been approved by the Thai government and will come into effect 15 days after their publication in the country's official gazette. Until then, current entry regulations will apply.
The previous general visa-free stay of 60 days is replaced by country-specific rules according to the principle of ”one country – one right”. However, the changes are expected to have limited significance for Swedish travellers. Visitors from EU countries, among others, will continue to be able to enter visa-free for stays of up to 30 days. Travellers planning longer stays are advised to check current visa regulations before departure.
At the same time, Thailand is starting a pilot launch of the mobile app Thailand Immigration Management (THIM) ahead of a full-scale launch in August 2026.
The app is voluntary and allows for faster registration of the mandatory digital entry card, Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), by scanning passport details, saving travel information and registering groups of up to ten people.
THIM does not replace the digital entry card but is expected to be expanded with more functions in the long term, including digital immigration matters, booking of government matters and direct contact with the tourist police.
The initiative is part of Thailand's efforts to digitize the entry process and make travel smoother for international visitors.
