Starting April 1, the requirement for a negative COVID-19 test to enter Thailand will be lifted, a spokesperson for the country's public health authority announced on Friday.
International travelers will continue to be tested upon arrival.
The announcement is part of an effort to revive the country's hard-hit tourism sector, which normally accounts for around 20 percent of Thailand's economy.
The tourism industry estimates that five million foreign travelers will visit Thailand in 2022, compared to 40 million in 2019.
Around 25,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 are still being reported daily. However, the government hopes for a slowdown in time for July as the country plans a transition to a ”post-pandemic” phase.
