From now on, Swedes travelling in Thailand will not be able to stay in the country for more than 30 days without a visa.
Thailand is returning to pre-pandemic rules. This means the time tourists can stay without a visa will be halved from 60 to 30 days for over 90 countries, including the entire Schengen area where Sweden is a member. The country hopes to curb crime involving foreigners in this way, says Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul.
The message comes after a number of arrests of foreign nationals linked to drug offences, human trafficking and financial crime.
It can also be a question of even shorter times. According to the minister, all 90 countries will be reduced to a maximum of 30 days, some may even have a limit of 15 days.
Tourism accounts for more than 10 percent of Thailand's GDP.
