Thailand is transitioning from a winter favourite to now also attracting more and more Swedes during the summer months. Despite new entry requirements being introduced in May and June, bookings for summer 2025 have increased by almost 25 percent, according to the travel agency Ticket.
Although Thailand has long been seen as a typical winter destination, more and more Swedes are now choosing to travel there during the summer as well. New figures from the travel agency Ticket show that bookings for summer 2025 have increased by almost 25 percent compared to the same period last year.
The greatest interest is in Bangkok, followed by Phuket. The clear increase is happening at the same time as new entry requirements are being introduced in the country – but the changes do not seem to have significantly affected Swedish travellers.
– We're still seeing the greatest interest in Europe during the summer, but Thailand is increasing. Even though bookings aren't yet reaching the levels we see during the winter months, it's interesting that a destination that has traditionally been strongest in the winter is now gaining ground during the summer months too, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and Communications Manager at Ticket.
From May and June onwards, Swedish citizens will need to register digitally via two systems – ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) and TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card) – to be granted entry into the country. Despite this, interest continues to increase.
– We are seeing no hesitation from travellers, quite the opposite. It is clear that Thailand continues to be a favourite with increasing demand, says Tiyoneh Jah.
