Welding defects and cracks in a switch were behind the derailment of an Arlanda Express train in May last year, according to the Swedish Accident Investigation Board's final report, writes P4 Stockholm.

The train was traveling at nearly 180 kilometers per hour when it derailed. Two people were injured, one seriously, and the damage to the train and the tracks was extensive.

According to Dagens Nyheter, the investigators recommend that the responsible company monitor wear and maintenance needs in the switch in question to prevent new deficiencies.
