The drama earlier this summer when a man was being sucked out of an airplane over Greece was caused by a loose engine part.

The man's head was squeezed out after the window pane was shattered shortly after departure from Thessaloniki, Greece on July 10. 

He was saved by the fact that he was wearing his seatbelt and that fellow passengers held onto his legs.

An engine blade became detached during flight at an altitude of 4,570 meters. It hit the window and other parts of the plane, according to a report from the US accident investigation authority NTSB.

The aircraft, a US-made Boeing 737-800, was flown by Malta Air, which is owned by Ryanair.

The man escaped with neck and shoulder injuries and scratches.
