On November 4, 1993, the current air traffic control tower was inaugurated by the then Director General of the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration, Ingemar Skogö. This year, the tower celebrates its 30th anniversary. It will be commemorated with a tour for employees' families on Saturday, November 4. 

The old tower at the airport was built in 1947, but was too low and also facing the wrong direction for the air traffic controllers to be able to see the planes well. Today's tower building has a height of 21 meters and a total of 1200 square meters of premises in the entire tower building. The tower was also built to be able to be converted into a restaurant. A round, delicious restaurant with a view for miles. 

At Norrköping Airport, ACR operates air traffic control. The competitive market in Sweden consists of 21 airports, where ACR operates air traffic control at two out of three Swedish airports, a total of 17 airports. 

Adjacent to Norrköping Airport is also Östgöta Control Center (which is celebrating its 50th anniversary). From here, LFV directs traffic to and from SAAB and Malmen airports in Linköping, Norrköping Airport and Skavsta Airport.

In preparation for the anniversary, photographs of the construction process have been taken and framed for a small photo exhibition in the tower for specially invited guests. Guests will also be able to visit the air traffic controllers at the top of the tower, take part in a flight safety course and see the airport's fleet of vehicles.

Next year, 2024, the entire airport will celebrate its 90th anniversary and the public will be invited to the festivities.

May 19, 1993: The tower dome was lifted into place. It was built on the ground.
